ProposalMrs. Amy Boutilier
Sport and Medical Sciences Academy 280 Huyshope Ave Hartford, CT 06106 Dear Mrs. Boutilier: I’ve decided to do my capstone on helping the needy. The company that I'm volunteering for is called Journey Home and A Hand Up. It’s all about helping the people who are in need, I’m helping with distributing the materials for people who need them. We get clients who are put on the list and they tell us what they need. We then get the stuff they need from donations and give it to them. The base of operation is in West Hartford, it’s where we get the stuff ready and then deliver them from there. I’m also planning on taking kids from my school who need community service hours and invite them to come help. I’ve never been a leader before, so this is going to be a new experience planning out the dates and working with new people. I normally work by myself because decision making is quicker and if something goes wrong then It’s my responsibility. My research question is, what are the benefits of volunteering and its effect on your personal life? I’ve seen a lot of homeless people in Hartford and it always pains my heart to see them like that because most of the ended like that because of little mistakes or just bad luck. Most of them deserve a second chance in life but people just ignore them. I am also guilty of it, I ignore their call of help, that’s why I want I chose this as my capstone. I don’t want to be a person who ignores the request of help from other people anymore. The world needs more good because there are already enough bad things in the world. I’m planning to go help during the weekends from 10 am to 1 pm. The person that is helping me out is Alison (Scharr) Sjoberg. You can email her at [email protected] . Her qualifications are, she started working at Journey Home as an intern and has since been hired as a full-time employee at Journey Home. She graduated from Quinnipiac University in 2015 where she earned her degree in Social Services and from the UCONN School of Social Work in 2017 where she earned her Masters of Social Work in Community Organizing. She’s a really nice person, I got the chance to get to know her a bit during my first time volunteering. At first I was really shy about meeting her, because I get nervous around new people. Alison was different she seemed easy to talk to, and she was very welcoming. She was willing to listen to me, and was open minded to everything I had to say or suggest. During our conversation I found out that we like the same sport, which is soccer. Alison made my experience easier than I expected. I can’t wait to work with her in the future. Sincerely, Bay Shar |
